Yale was founded in Connecticut in 1844 by Linus Yale Jr., inventor of the cylinder lock, to manufacture the very product that brought him such fame. In 1868, Linus Yale Jr. and Henry R. Towne together founded the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company, soon to be named the Yale and Towne Manufacturing Co. In the early 1920s, Yale and Towne acquired C.W. Hunt, which produced the first battery-powered low-lift forklift truck in the industry. Beginning production of lift trucks itself, Yale and Towne introduced tilting masts and forks in its K20 through K24 models.
It eventually became a pioneer in many specialized fork trucks, including explosion-proof, heavy-duty ram, cast-iron suspended, and hydraulically-powered models.
In 1934, Yale and Towne opened its first foreign manufacturing facility in England and began selling lift trucks in Japan. 1950 saw the addition of gas-powered forklifts to the Yale and Towne product line, as well as the first hypoid drive axles and fluid coupling transmissions used in the lift truck industry. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Yale merged with Eaton Manufacturing and Sumitomo Heavy Industries of Japan, and Yale Material Handling Corporation was established in 1984. Today, Yale (now combined with Hyster to form Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc.) is the fourth largest forklift producer in the world and the largest in the United States. It has production factories in America, Japan, and the UK. In Intella, it's easy to find parts for your Yale forklift just browse our Yale forklift parts catalog and select the parts you require.
