Dana Off-Highway Transmission Oil Specifications

Dana (also known as Clark) off-highway transmissions are used in a variety of different forklift brands.  Dana actually purchased the Clark division back in 1997 (over 20 years ago!) but the name Clark still lingers on.

Need Dana or Clark transmission parts? We can help – just click here

Recommended Lubricants for Dana/Clark Transmissions and Converters:

  • Preferred Oil Viscosity
    • See the chart below and base your lubricant based on the correct temperature
    • If more than one applies, pick the one that your temperature is closest to the middle in the range

      Oil Application Chart
  • Approvals: Make sure to use multi-viscosity lubricants
  • Not Approved: GL-5 and engine oils – use only lubricant specified for transmissions!
  • Sump Pre-Heaters: Transmission fluid needs to be heated to a specific temperature before use to make sure it is pumping with the correct viscosity.
  • During warm up, make sure to stay in neutral gear! Driving is not allowed with a full load until minimum sump temperature is reached.
  • Using synthetic fluids, oil service life may be longer. To determine each transmissions change interval, measure the metal wear and oil oxidation over time to figure out the baseline. Please remember that removal of the transmission based solely on checking the metal ware is not recommended.
  • Transmission lubricant should follow the specifications of one of the following:
    • Caterpillar TO-4
    • MIL-PRD-2104G
    • John Deere J20 C, D
    • Dexron IID or Dextrol III

Where do I find my Raymond forklift’s serial number?

Note: This page is for Raymond forklifts only. To find a serial number for a forklift of a different brand, click here for our other guides.

When ordering Raymond forklift parts, having the correct serial number is crucial. The quickest way to find your Raymond forklift’s serial number is to check the forklift’s nameplate (also called a data plate or data tag). This useful little plate displays various details about your truck–how much it weighs, how much it can lift, its model, and (most importantly) its serial number. On a Raymond forklift, the nameplate is often found near the dashboard, like in the image to the left, and looks similar to the image on the below.

raymond forklift parts intellaRaymond forklift's serial number

But what if your forklift’s nameplate has worn down or fallen off? Don’t worry just yet. A Raymond forklift’s serial number can sometimes be found physically stamped on its chassis. For Raymond trucks, this number is often located in the power section, usually under the controller. But beware: there are also shop work order numbers stamped on various places on the frame, which are not correct serial numbers. So, when you’re in dire need of your serial number and your nameplate isn’t cutting it, you now have another handy option. Just be careful when you’re looking all over your chassis not to mistakenly use any other numbers!

Where do I find my Clark forklift’s serial number?

Note: This page is for Clark forklifts only. To find a serial number for a forklift of a different brand, click here for our other guides.

If you are looking for mast parts (or as Clark refers to them “deck parts”), please view our Clark forklift mast ID guide here

The quickest way to find your Clark forklift’s serial number is to check the forklift’s data tag (also called a data plate or nameplate). This useful plaque displays various details about your lift–its model, how much it weighs, how much it can lift, and (most importantly) its serial number. If you have a Clark forklift parts catalog for your machine, the serial number will also be printed on the front cover.  On a Clark forklift, the nameplate looks like the image to the right and is often found near the dashboard or the seat, like in the image to the left:

Clark forklift's serial numberBut what if your forklift’s nameplate has worn down or fallen off? Don’t panic. A Clark forklift’s serial number can be found physically stamped right on its frame. Often, this number is stamped in the left-hand frame member of the chassis. For example, to the right is the frame stamp from the forklift shown above. So, if you’re in dire need of your serial number and your nameplate is out of commission, remember to check the body of your truck too!

Where do I find my Caterpillar forklift’s serial number?

Note: This page is for Caterpillar and Mitsubishi forklifts only. To find a serial number for a forklift of a different brand, click here for our other guides. The most direct way to find your Caterpillar forklift’s serial number is to check the forklift’s nameplate (also called a data tag). This helpful little label includes lots of various details about your lift–its model, its weight, its lifting capacity, and more. Most importantly, the nameplate also displays the forklift’s serial number. On a Caterpillar forklift, the nameplate looks like the image to the left and is often found near the dashboard, like in the image to the right:

Caterpillar is also associated with the Mitsubishi brand, so if you have a Mitsubishi forklift, the nameplate may look something like this:

Checking the nameplate is the quickest and easiest method of discerning the serial number of your forklift. But what if the nameplate wears down or has fallen off? You’re not out of luck just yet. Sometimes, a Caterpillar forklift’s serial number can be found physically stamped on its frame. Below is a list of different models of Caterpillar forklifts and some diagrams showing where their serial numbers can be found.

Models and serial numbers

In general, a Caterpillar forklift’s serial number is stamped on the chassis frame above the right-hand front wheel. For certain models that are represented by diagrams, see the highlighted portions of the figures below.

Note: This list is a work in progress. Check back later for more Caterpillar/Mitsubishi models!

For your convenience we also offer a Cat Forklift Parts Manual where you can search by your Caterpillar Forklift’s Model Number.
